Jodi Picoult Vs. Snooki

Jodi-Picoult-Snooki

Okay, so as you all know, Jodi Picoult is hands down my favorite author.  I love, love, love every single book she's ever written, and I'm sure I will also love, love, love all of the books she will write.

Apparently people are upset because Jodi has been "dogging" on Snooki...but let's get real here...Jodi has a point.  I'm sure that Jodi struggled through her career and had points at which she didn't think she was going to make it as an author -- I'm sure all authors go through that.  But what makes Snooki an author?  Did she even actually write the book?  Because from the few clips I have seen of Jersey Shore it seems like Snooki is constantly drunk...how does a constantly drunk person write a coherent sentence, let alone a whole book.

I hate to break it to Snooki, but your big hair, fake lashes, awful (orange) tan and the fact that you "starred" (more like acted like a complete fool) on a reality TV show doesn't make you an author.

Just a few of the tweets from Jodi...
  • It is a sad world when Snooki counts as an "author" on AM news shows and the Caldecott winners don't.
  • Valid questions: Who rushes out to buy the Snooki book? Why does Snooki think she can write a book? You don't see me acting on Jersey Shore.
  • There are SO many good writers struggling to get 1st publishing contract. Breaks my heart to see Snooki's book taking up space in a store.

The Harrowing Date-Rape Scene From Snooki's Book

Giovanna "Gia" Spumanti and her cousin Isabella "Bella" Rizzoli are going to have the sexiest summer ever.  While they couldn't be more different - pint-size Gia is a carefree, outspoken party girl and Bella is a tall, slender athlete who always holds her tongue - for the next month they're ready to pouf up their hair, put on their stilettos, and soak up all that Seaside Heights, New Jersey has to offer: hot guidos, cool clubs, fried Oreos and lots of tequila.
So far, Gia's summer is on fire.  Between nearly burning down their rented bungalow, inventing the popular "tan-tags" at the Tantastic Salon where she works, and rescuing a shark on the beach, she becomes a local celebrity overnight.  Luckily, she meets the perfect guy to help her keep the flames under control.  Firefighter Frank Rossi is exactly her type: big, tan, and Italian.  But is he tough enough to handle Gia when things really heat up?
Bella is more than ready for some fun in the sun.  Finally free of her bonehead ex-boyfriend, she left home in Brooklyn with one goal in mind:  hooking up with a sexy gorilla for a no-strings-attached summer fling.  In no time, she lands a job leading "Beat Up the Beat" dance classes at a local gym, and is scooped up by Beemer-driving, preppy Bender Newberry.  Only problem:  Bella can't get her romantic and ripped boss Tony "Trouble" Troublino out of her head.  He's relationship material.  Suddenly, Bella's not sure what she wants.
The cousins soon realize that for ever friend they make on the boardwalk, there are also rivals, slummer and frenemies who will do anything to ruin their summer - and try their relationship.  Before July ends, the bonds of family and friendship will be stretched to the breaking point.  Will the haters prevail, or will Gia and Bella find love at the Shore?
For everyone who loves MTV's hit reality show, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi's sweet, funny and sexy novel perfectly captures the heat, the energy, the fun and the drama of Jersey Shore.

Seriously -- I think I just lost brain cells reading that "summary".  It sounds like an AWFUL attempt at an autobiography.

I am 100% behind Jodi on this one, not just because she is my favorite author, but also because Snooki is just a drunk drama-queen from Jersey...

Happy Reading!

I totally agree. It makes me so mad that reality TV has gone so far as to take over the few remaining intellectual arenas left in this country. Not just reality shows either! Tyra Banks, Hilary Duff, 50 Cent, Justin Beiber???? Who on earth thought they should become published authors? It's really unfair when people with no evident writing talent use their name recognition to take the place of a legitimate author on the publishing house presses. I refuse to read any of their "works."

@Casey -- I know, can you tell how annoyed I was!?! I just hate that there are so many TALENTED people out there trying to get a foot in the door and they can't. Oh but, if you make a complete fool out of yourself on national television, you've got book deals coming out the ying-yang. GRR!!
