A Challenge to My Readers!

The Ultimate Challenge!

I have a challenge, and I need your help!!  My boyfriend of seven years is not an avid reader, and it always intrigues me.  I am obsessed with books, and can't read enough!  It always seems to drive me a little crazy when he says things like "Why read the book, when you can just wait a few months for the movie to come out?"

I have come to the realization that not everyone is as awesome as us book lovers, and that is okay.  He has many other things that he enjoys doing, and I can respect that.  What I want to do is delve into his mind and figure out why it is that he doesn't like reading.

Why is it that some people read tons of books a year, while others would rather do anything else.  I mean the man despises books -- I don't think I could get him to read a book even if I wanted to.  I've tried buying him books that I think he would like, based on things in life that he is interested in, but it never fails -- they don't get read.  The only thing I have seen him read (aside from magazines about technology) is the Almanac.  I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, but he could sit on the couch and read the Almanac all day long.
Different strokes for different folks right?

So -- here is where you come in.  What kinds of questions do you have for him?  Is there anything you are dying to find out from a non-reader?  Anything you would like to know, just leave it in the comments, and I will get everything compiled so we can figure out -- WHY!

Thanks for your help, and Happy Reading!

I think my husband can count on one hand the # of books he's read. It is really fascinating to me when people don't read. I guess just like I don't really like to cook!

Okay so a few questions:

1) What kind of book or story would entice you to read it?

2) What is it about reading that just doesn't spark your interest?

@Midnyte - Haha! We've been together for 7 years, and I only know of one book that he's read...lol.

Great questions! Keep em coming!

I have a similar *problem* with my boyfriend. He doesn't like to read, but he knows I love it.

The only books he has read are joke books and Scott Pilgrim's comics.

So my question would be...

Would you read a graphic novel?

so my qestion is.

do you do audio books? (they take up lots of time yes, but you can walk around in a totally different world. while you are walking, driving, cleaning the house) I love reading a book, but lately I am finding myself being crawled on by three kids and if not, cleaning the house, so audio books allow me to escape the world, and do everything that needs to get done.

Another question is: If you had to read one book for whatever reason what would it be. (it can't be something that there is a movie based off of, or something that has gone supernova in hype.)

I have noticed that guys just don't like to read nearly as much and when they do, they often prefer magazines or non-fiction.

Ask your boyfriend if he'd read a non-fiction account on the history of the Atlanta Braves (noticing his hat in photo)or any other sports-related book, or if he would even consider audio books?

Does he remember the last fiction book he read? When did his interest in reading leave him, in grade school?

I couldn't understand why/how people got into reading, but once I set my mind to give it a honest go (10mos ago)...wow, I love books!! For me... I didn't grow up with parents who read books. So my question to him would be ...did he grow up without family that encouraged reading? --Please post what you end up finding out ...curious. :)

I don't have any questions, my husband is exactly the same. He hates reading and won't even pick up a book. He kept saying it's because he prefers reading things on his phone or the PC, so I got him some e-books and he made it through maybe 2 chapters in about 3 months and that was painful going!

I don't understand it - I'll get though 4 books a week when authors keep up with my reading pace hehe. But he's still adamant about not enjoying reading. He has a great imagination but books...no chance! It baffles me :/
